Fosters are what make our organization go, go, go! The more fosters we have, the more pups we can welcome into safe, loving environments before they are ready to be adopted into permanent, forever homes.
The LSAR Foster Program is simple: We supply the pet, just add food, shelter and love! We will take care of all approved veterinary costs (including medications) for your LSAR foster pet. We just ask you treat them like one of your own; give them food/water, a soft, safe place to lay their head, and lots of love.
You do not have to be a dog whisperer to apply! No degree or special training is required. But make no mistake, fosters are indeed very special people! Fosters must be loving, patient, giving and dedicated. If this sounds like you, we'd be delighted to have you on our team!
Please note: A complete (and approved) application, as well as a home visit are required to join the LSAR Foster Program. We are currently "recruiting" fosters within our service area only. Please apply to foster if you currently reside within Texas or Oklahoma.

KODA RAE
Stats: 9 years old, male
Location: Austin, TX
Intake: 06/01/24
Adoption Fee: $150
Social: #KodaRae147
Meet Koda Rae! He's a sweet, smart, and friendly Aussie/Border Collie mix with a lot of personality and a few quirks that make him extra lovable! He’s 9 years old, 42 pounds, and full of life and love!
Koda may technically be a senior, but he still has a lot of puppyish energy that requires plenty of mental and physical stimulation throughout the day. He loves his walks and is a well mannered boy who will sit politely for his leash to be put on and off. Whether it’s fetch, soccer, tug of war, or chase-Koda is ready to go (except for those squeaky toys-they’re a little scary to him). He’s also anxious around any light reflecting off surfaces-likely driven by someone playing with a laser pointer in the past, which can have many negative effects on a dog.
He’s incredibly smart and thrives with plenty of mental stimulation and training. He already has a lengthy list of commands/tricks such as Sit, stay, come, let’s go, off, down, up, leave it, drop, give (to retrieve toy), heel, cross (when crossing road), left and right (while walking), gentle (while playing), left & right paw, crawl, roll over (he goes 3/4 of the way), and is ready for more fun learning to add to his list.
After much needed fun, one of his favorite phrases is “sleeps” and he’s ready for a good nap or snuggle! He loves being outdoors and active , but also loves time with his people just relaxing inside-he’s the perfect best friend.
Koda will need continued work on leash reactivity , but responds well to redirection and praise. He is generally dog friendly and loves to play, but seems to prefer dogs his size or smaller.
Koda Rae is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and on monthly heartworm and flea prevention. He being fostered in the Austin area and will require the adopter to travel to meet him within 7 days of approval.
