Fosters are what make our organization go, go, go! The more fosters we have, the more pups we can welcome into safe, loving environments before they are ready to be adopted into permanent, forever homes.
The LSAR Foster Program is simple: We supply the pet, just add food, shelter and love! We will take care of all approved veterinary costs (including medications) for your LSAR foster pet. We just ask you treat them like one of your own; give them food/water, a soft, safe place to lay their head, and lots of love.
You do not have to be a dog whisperer to apply! No degree or special training is required. But make no mistake, fosters are indeed very special people! Fosters must be loving, patient, giving and dedicated. If this sounds like you, we'd be delighted to have you on our team!
Please note: A complete (and approved) application, as well as a home visit are required to join the LSAR Foster Program. We are currently "recruiting" fosters within our service area only. Please apply to foster if you currently reside within Texas or Oklahoma.
FOSTER PROGRAM
NOVA
Stats: 1 year old, female
Location: Austin, TX
Intake: 10/12/2024
Adoption Fee: $275
Nova is a high energy, highly snuggly 1- year old 30 lb. Mini Aussie. She LOVES running around outside in the yard with her foster brother, or taking walks, and then snuggling on the couch, bed, floor, office chair, wherever she can squeeze herself onto your lap.
She is super smart and eager to please which makes teaching her all kinds of new things incredibly fun! She could easily be a trick dog or more! She has already mastered sit, stay, come, leave it, shake, no (when jumping like a deer next to us in the house before her walk lol).
Nova is very energetic and needs lots of playtime, both indoor and outdoor, along with daily mental enrichment, to manage that energy. The ideal home for Nova will have a friendly playmate and owners who take her on daily walks and adventures while incorporating learning new things and brushing up on existing skills regularly.
Since she was new to walking on a leash and meeting dogs while out, she can be reactive on walks when she encounters a dog that growls or barks at her. We’ve made good progress with redirection and her forever family will need to continue working on that with her. On her first walk of the day, she cannot resist trying to chase every squirrel, bird, or deer, but again with redirection and once she has let out some morning energy, she does great.
She absolutely loves her humans! She is shy for just a bit with new people, but given a little time and her favorite treats, she easily gets comfortable with house guests and realizes that means more pets and cuddles for her! She really is one of the snuggliest Aussies out there. She has been living with a cat foster brother currently. While she means no harm, her urge to chase sometimes gets the best of her, so a home without kitties is probably best for her.
Nova still has some puppy quirks, like her love for eating paper (toilet rolls, napkins, mail, etc.) but she does great in her crate overnight or when left alone at home for more than a few hours, and continues to learn what is appropriate for pups to play with. Toys and playing with other dogs were new to Nova, so she sometimes gets a little overly excited while playing; therefore, an easy-going dog is recommended. If her humans aren’t available for snuggle time, her other favorite indoor activities include playing with toys and tug of war with her foster brother, wrestling, and chewing on bones.
Nova is up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, spayed, and on monthly Heartworm and flea prevention.
Nova is being fostered in Austin and will require the adopter to travel to meet her within 7 days of approval. If you already have an application on file with us, please contact us saying you are interested in Nova.
